More on my 1806 Project

I've been working on some 28mm Prussian figures by Elite Miniatures and I wanted to share the finished product. I've painted up I.R. #1 to start off with. I've got some Grenadiers, Fusiliers, and Jagers primed and ready to go along with a lot of cavalry & artillery. I'm basing my units for "Republic to Empire" by Barry Hilton and for the most part each Prussian battalion will have 36 figures along with 4 shutzen while the cavalry will have 8 figures per squadron, 5 squadrons per regiment (not that I'll paint all 5 squadrons but I could if I wanted to) with a few exceptions for those regiments that had 10 squadrons.

The Elite Miniatures figures to paint up nicely and there are a few poses to choose from so you can add a bit a variety to your units. I have to say that I really like the Shutzen (skirmish) figures for each grouping. They paint up really well and have a nice feel for action in them. I've also tried reducing the amount of paints that I use now and by that I mean I'm using only 2 colors in most cases and not the typical triad that many use now. I still think that the figures will look good and it allows me to paint a little faster but there are some areas where I still use the 3 color system. For me that's a big improvement because I was able to turn out the 80 figures you see in the pictures in the last 3+ weeks which is a huge improvement over what I'm use to finishing. One other item to note is that the flags on the units are from Adolfo Ramos, which I reviewed earlier. I think they look really good and are well worth the cost (6.10 Euros plus shipping)

Anyway, enough of that and on to the pictures

I also wanted to share the work that I've started on a squadron of Prussian Dragoons. This will be DR #2 (von Prittwitz in 1806). I'm still playing around with the colors. I think I want a dark base color and then use the medium blue so I can get a bigger contrast. We'll see what I end up with but for now here's a photo of what I'm doing -

As always, thanks for stopping by and leaving comments.....

New 28mm 1806 Prussian figure line startup

I've come across a new group that is attempting to start up a 28mm 1806 Prussian figure line. From what I can see the figures look really good and it will give people more options when choosing this period. Take a look at the article which I found on TMP. So now we've got Black Hussar Miniatures to cover the SYW Prussians and this group starting up to cover the 1806 Prussians - life is good!

New Flags for review

I've posted pictures of flags from The Flag Dude, GMB, Maverick Models and now I want to post some pics of flags from Adolfo Ramos. What I decided to do was order his best or what he calls a "complete" flag. So far the largest size you can get this in is his 30mm size. The flags are all paper, no cloth/material options yet. The price of the flag increase with size and option - naturally. Below are the pictures of my first order - Seven Years War flags. I ordered a set (2 flags) for each battalion of the Prussian IR #1 regiment, 2 Austrian flags and he also sent me a single French regimental for La Reine. I think you'll see that these flags are as good as any on the market. With the 'complete' flag order you will get the flag mounted on a pole, with the proper finials, the pole is painted, and the flag edges are touched up so no white from the paper is showing. The price per complete flag is 6.10 Euros with his entry level flags under 1 Euro. I think the quality for the price is there as compared to the other flag makers. I also feel that Adolfo's work is right up there with GMB so it is well worth the cost considering you have a finished product when it arrives! Anyway, let me apologize ahead of time for the pictures. I'm sure my camera can take great pictures but the person behind the camera, maybe not so much.

I can't wait to see how these flags would look with the Black Hussar Miniatures SYW Prussians!

So my final thoughts are that you cannot go wrong with any of the 4 flags makers I've listed and by having choices you'll get what you want.

Things I've done in December

I wanted to show you what I was working on for the month of December and the first week of January. I helped a friend by painting up some additional figures for a couple of SYW units I had painted for him. Then I painted up some 1/72nd plastic figures for him for the same period - SYW. He's basing everything for 'Might & Reason' but, at least for the 28mm stuff he'll be using a 60mm x 60mm base using 18 to 20 figures. I like the look of that as it gives more weight to the unit.

Along the back row you'll see the two units of mine I was working on. The unit on the right is I.R.1 in 1806 using Elite Miniatures figures. I'm waiting for the flags to arrive in the mail. I thought I'd give Adolfo Ramos a try with his flags. I selected the 30mm complete option to see how his best is and compare that to GMB, The Flag Dude, and Maverick Models. I'll take pics once they arrive. The unit on the left is I.R.33 for the SYW using Front Rank figures and GMB flags. I've mounted them up on the 60mm square base for Might & Reason. That's it for now. Next on the painting table will be a Minden unit of Austrians for Might & Reason and then back to my 1806 project with another Prussian infantry unit mounted up for 'Republic to Empire' and I've been looking at those new SYW figures from Black Hussar Miniatures. I'm thinking of ordering enough figures for a unit just to see if they look as good in person as they do in the pictures.

and on to the pics....

Saxon Cav....again

I had showed some pics of the 1806 Saxon cav I painted up earlier but they didn't have the flags attached. Well now I have the flags and I've been able to also put a couple of coats of clear lacquer on them. So on to the pics with the flags.....
That's all for now. I'm back to painting those SYW figures for my friend. Thanks for stopping by.

I've been painting up some of the Eureka Wars of the French Revolution figures lately. As always they are a joy to paint. This round I've painted up a unit of Hungarian Infantry. Enough said, on to the pictures.....

I have only two small complaints about the figures -

1. The thigh knots do not stand out very well as compared to other manufacturers.

2. The buttons stand out too much! They look like small nipples on the figures which makes them hard to paint to look like a button.

I'm going to be painting some SYW figures for a friend of mine and after that I plan on working on some 1806 Prussians by Elite Miniatures. Thanks for stopping by.
