Latest French Revolutionary Figures - Austrian Cavalry

I decided to try my luck at painting some of the Eureka 'Wars of the French Revolution' figures.  I started with the Austrian Chevauxlegers they have and I find them to be a really beautiful figure.  Nicely detailed without going over the top, well proportioned, and the animation is done very well.  I've been painting Front Rank WSS figures for so long that it took a while to get into a rhythm with them but once I did I felt comfortable painting these very nice figures.  So let me stop talking and show you what I painted.

I like the thicker bases and putting the name on the back edge of the base.  I find it helps the figures last longer and the players can easily see which unit is which.

The next Eureka unit I'll be working on will be an Austrian Dragoon from this range.  As always comments and suggestions are welcome.

My first Napoleonic unit - French Revolutionary Period

Last time I gave you a picture of an individual figure I had painted.  This time I have the whole unit.  The figures are from Elite Miniatures' 30mm Collector Series 1796 range.  I do like these figures as they are very easy to paint up and they look good enmass.  Next I hope to paint up either some Austrians from the same line or some Austrian cavalry from the gorgeus Eureka Miniatures 28mm line (Wars of the French Revolution).  I won't mix the two lines in the same unit but I think both will look good together on the table.  And now on to those pictures.....

You'll see the mix of headgear offered by Elite which gives a nice 'rough' look to the unit as these are suppose to represent the French between 1796 and 1800.  I think I could even carry them through to 1806 if I want to.  You might have to squint for any tarleton's but I won't have many of them.  The flag is by the dude himself - The Flag Dude.  The officer's horse was done totally with oils.  I plan on using Revolution to Empire by Barry Hilton as the rules for our games.  On to the next unit.....

Starting a new period

Yes, we've decided to delve into a new period - Napoleonics.  But we're going to focus on the Revolutionary Period.  We've picked a some nice figures for this part of the Napoleonic saga from Elite, Eureka, Victrix and maybe a few others.  Here is a picture of one, yes, only 1 figure from the Elite range for this period.  Elite calls it their 30mm Collector's Series 1796 Range.  It focuses on the Italian campaigns of Napoleon and he has some very nice French & Austrians figures available with more in the pipeline.  One other manufacturer that I like is Eureka.  They have a wonder 28mm range for this period and the figures look fantastic.  I don't feel that you could intermix the Elite & Eureka in the same unit due to their vastly different sculpting styles but side-by-side in different units, you bet and that is what we plan on doing.  So enough said, here is that picture of the one Elite Miniatures 30mm Collector's Series Frenchman.....

Back with more pics

I didn't realize that it has been such a long time since my last post.  As always work is getting in the way of doing the important stuff in life.  We did another good WSS game in September and here are some pics from it.  We decided not to go with the large scale battle but instead have a few brigades on the table and as more people showed up we could then add additional brigades as needed.  Everyone had a great time and the table wasn't overly crowded which I think everyone one enjoyed as we had some real manuvering room.  Enough said, here are the pics.....

My latest WSS work

I've been SLOWLY working on some Swiss for the French Army.  They are almost totally done and here are a few pictures.  The pictures of the flags are for the Pfyffer regiment and these flags are from Maverick Models. Once I've got them fully based up I'll add a few more.

These next few pictures of of the Bourbon regiment that I just reflagged.  I had GMB flags on them and I've switched out to The Flag Dude.  I really like his flags, especially the cloth (material) ones.  The just have a nice look and feel to them.

One of the many reasons I've been slow to paint lately.  My son graduating from high school.  I fear that I will have even less money available as he enters college in the fall.
